Here We Go Around the World with 10 Little Rubber Ducks "Ducks overboard!" shouts the captain, as a giant wave washes a box of 10 little rubber ducks off his cargo ship and into the sea. The 10 little rubber ducks are swept away in various directions. One drifts west, where a friendly dolphin jumps over it. A whale sings to another. But, as the sun sets, the 10th little rubber duck is left all alone, bobbing helplessly on the big wide sea. Small readers and listeners will empathize with the little duck's plight -- and will rejoice at the heartwarming surprise ending. In this poignant and funny story, illustrated with strikingly designed collages, Eric Carle also takes readers on an exciting voyage of discovery. Following the little ducks as they float to all parts of the globe, young explorers can see for themselves the meanings of directional words, and learn simple math concepts such as counting and the use of cardinal and ordinal numbers. Each creature the ducks meet is seen in its own habitat and behaves in a true-to-life manner, offering a very simple first view of biology and geography. All aboard for a world of learning and fun! | | | Features: | |

Duck Delight!Jul 23, 2010 Delightful book with a button at the end of the story for little fingers to press for a duck quacking sound. My only caution is that this is a large heavy hardcover 9" x 12" (not a boardbook) too heavy and awkward for little pre-schoolers. And because the pages are large, they are delicate and can tear easily, so parents may need to assist their young ones when turning the pages.
Our Daughter's Very Favorite BookJun 21, 2010 We are big Eric Carle fans and surprisingly, my daughter likes this book even more than The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which has been a long standing favorite at our house. This book is always checked out at our library and as soon as we check it out somebody else puts a hold on it. Since this book is our daughter's absolute favorite, I guess it's time to fork over the 15.00 dollars and get our daughter her own copy.
Even though our 2 year old daughter is just learning to count and doesn't know her left from her right she is fascinated by every page in this book which introduces numerous concepts in a natural eye-catching way. Her favorite part, of course, is the quaking duck at the end of the book (there is a button that makes a quaking sound when pressed).
As a home schooling mother of 4 and former pre-school teacher, I highly recommend this book.

Squeak, Squeak, This book is fun for your special little one!Oct 30, 2009 Eric Carle has done it again. His cute story is paired with his incredible illusrtrations. Children love it and that's what books are for! All you need is a rubber duck or ten and a tub of water (hey, it's bath time!) and you have a recipe for laughter and fun.

10 Little Rubber DucksJun 09, 2009 This book was purchased to assist special needs children with counting and the sound "d" identification. It works great for the job!

Two thumbs up...one big and one smallJun 27, 2008 In July of 2003, award-winning children's author and illustrator Eric Carle saw an article about a 1992 shipment of rubber ducks that fell off of a ship and traveled throughout the world. Well, he just couldn't resist writing a book about those toys. And in that book, he tells the story from their manufacture, through their loss, and on to the adventures that the ten little rubber ducks had.
The book is richly illustrated, in that bright, realistic/not-realistic style that Eric Carle is famous for. The accompanying text is very interesting, showing so much in so few words. The many different fates of the ducks, provides for some interesting reading, keeping my four-year-old spellbound. Yeah, we both like this book and we give it two thumbs up...one big and one small.
