5If you give a mommy an "If you give a pig a party" book...Aug 12, 2010
...chances are she will enjoy storytime as much as her little one! Sorry, I just love all of Laura Numeroff's books...and this is one that I do not mind reading 3 times in a row. :)

5Another delightful book from LauraJul 14, 2010
As a family we enjoy all of these books. Each of them are wonderful examples on how our train of thought moves using detailed art, hilarious expressions, and an all around silliness that creates a fun lovable adventure out of simple everyday diversions. Out of the many we own, If You Give a Pig a Party in particular is very fun to play 'I spy' or 'find it' games with. The pages are filled with little details and a hoard of friends to follow. At one point they even play hide-and-seek which creates the perfect opportunity to let your preschooler try to find them all on the page! This book is a definitely a delight to read and own!

5Love this seriesJun 11, 2010
We have all the books in this series and my 2 yr old daughter LOVES them all. This is her favorite.

It is worth mentioning the illustrations in the book are stellar. We love looking at all the silly animals and the things they are doing in the pictures. (In one picture, there is a snake wearing a sock as pajamas!)

I know some parents do not like these books because they feel the characters are really demanding (as they ask for different things throughout the story). However, I feel that helps introduce children to cause and effect.

One note, it would be nice if these were available as board books. However, I guess perhaps they feel they are for older children and maybe a board book version would not sell well? Not sure...

5fast service, item as advertised.Apr 25, 2010
The book came quickly and was just as advertised. My grandson now has the complete set and I no longer have to comb the book stores to find books no longer available. Amazon is the best.

3Pale imitation, stick to the original "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie"Mar 19, 2010
There's no reason to get this book unless you are a *big* fan of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." This story follows the same basic format, with a pig that has to have balloons with her party, and this leads to more and more. But, it lacks the panache of the original; there's just not the same spark. The chain of events is a bit more strained, with the sequence making less natural sense than the original. And there's not even the same smooth flow to the words as you read them aloud.

My children also prefer the original (with the exception of the girl who was given a stuffed pig along with this book!). I would only rate this book a 3; it's not bad, but it's not particularly good. By comparison, I'd rate the original a 4.5. My recommendation is just to skip this book and stick with "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie."
