4Layne's Review of Kitten's First Full MoonSep 03, 2010
I really enjoyed the simplicity of this book. It was a cute and fun story to read. The imagination of the kitten is so child like. It made me stop and think about things from a child's prospective. The illustrations are also very simple. I normally like more color in a story, but in this particular case I believe the black and white illustrations are perfect. This is defiantly a story that I will be adding to my collection.

4Joy's Review of Kitten's First Full MoonAug 29, 2010
I really liked this book because it took something that is a simple part of life and made it into a story. Sometimes we take things like a full moon for granted, and do not take into consideration what one might think if they did not know what it was, or if they used their imagination to dream about it. I thought that it was very clever. I liked the black and white illustrations. They really did an excellent job of not taking away from the story while adding to it at the same time. They were not distracting, but gave the reader a more clear understanding of the imagination behind this story and perhaps a glimpse into the view point of the kitten. I would definately reccomend this book to a friend!

A lovely picture book which would delight any small child. A white kitten is the only character, and its dilemma is simple: it wants the giant bowl of milk up in the night sky. Who can blame Kitten for wanting that? First, it tries licking the moon, then jumping on it, then climbing to it. Nothing works. But then, from its perch in a tree, Kitten notices another giant bowl of milk (actually a pond). Kitten leaps, splashes, and emerges hilariously bedraggled. Back at home, Kitten finds a real bowl of milk, and the story ends happily with it curled up asleep, a look of dreamy contentment on its little face.

The illustrations are attractive -- black and white with shades of gray, and thick outlines. The author/artist has captured the peculiar way that cats hunch forward, whiskers at attention and tail twitching. But the best picture is the one of the soaked kitten after the ill-advised pond jump. Few sights are more pathetic than a wet kitten, and no child's heart could remain unmoved at the sight of this one.

5Lucky Kitten!Mar 25, 2010
This is my 3-year-old son's favorite book. He just adores it. Each time Kitten fails to get the "bowl of milk" in the sky (the full moon), the book reads "Poor Kitten!" and my son loves to repeat this: "Pooooor Kitten!" and wants to hug her each time. Then at the end, he repeats the final line after Kitten gets her bowl of milk on the stoop of her home, "Lucky Kitten!"

The book's moral is a touching one. The things that comfort you most are not found in unreachable places, but instead right here at home.

The artwork in this book is simple, which in my opinion, is one of the best types when it comes to children's books. Nothing busy or complicated, but still able to easily accommodate the story and evoke emotions from the reader.

"Kitten's First Full Moon" is rarely left on our book shelf. ;-)

5Playfully endearing!Mar 12, 2010
The students in my library just loved this as a read-aloud. It has a very gentle, calm, yet playful nature to it...not to mention the stellar illustrations. It passed the kid-test with ease!
