Not the best counting book, but it has its charm.Dec 26, 2009 Since "Moo Moo, Brown Cow" is more or less a counting book, the clarity of the illustrations is very important. I think the artist's style makes it difficult for a small child to count the animals, especially on the pages with the piglets and the small fry. The colors are subdued and the animals are not distinctly depicted. My two-year old, who loves counting, is also not so interested in this book. If this were a different kind of story-book, the illustration might be very charming.
Despite the illustrations, the concept is simple and appealing: Kitty goes from mommy-animal to mommy-animal and asks how many babies each has. Each answers, the first animal having one baby, the second having two, etc. up to ten. With each animal the child also learns the correct term for the offspring.
If you are looking specifically for a counting book, I don't think this is a good choice. Otherwise, it definitely has its appeal as simple animal story for young toddlers.
One of our favorites!Dec 06, 2008 I've had to purchase a replacement copy of this book. It was so well loved by our first three children that when number four took an interest in it, the spine literally fell apart. The repetitive, predictable text is part of the appeal. I have enjoyed watching each of my non-readers share the story with their next-younger sibling. Moo Moo, Brown Cow is a classic in our house!
22 month old daughter LOVES this bookNov 26, 2008 We initially took this book out at the library. My daughter carried this book every where with her and would try to get anyone to read it to her. She points to the pictures and moos or meows or barks. She is working on her words but her favorite is duck.

Moo, baa, honkNov 12, 2008 A variation on the old nursery rhyme, "Baa Baa Black Sheep, Have You Any Wool", Moo Moo Brown Cow is pleasingly illustrated with artistic renderings of mother and baby animals. A little orange cat makes his way through the barnyard checking up on the new additions to the animals' families. Among the skills developed in the reading are counting, colors, names of adult and baby animals, and rhyming. Presented in a sturdy boardbook format, this gentle story is sure to please babies through preschoolers. You can even sing your way along using the old Baa Baa Black sheep tune. Lovely bit of kids' lit.

Our Favorite Bedtime StoryFeb 02, 2005 My daughter is 7 months old, and this has been her favorite book for at least 2 months. She immediately smiles and laughs when I begin reading the story to her every night (because we do read it _every_ night!). Several people have commented on the colors of the illustrations being too monochromatic, but I think that is part of the appeal. Some of her other books have very busy illustrations and I think are too much for her to take in. But the large blocks of color in Moo Moo Brown Cow are easy for her to focus on and she loves it. I would highly recommend this book!
