Description:

Humorous, endearing story celebrates family and sense of belonging!

Lamb is alone and sad and wants a mother. And in spite of having lots of relatives, Kangaroo is sad, too, because she has no baby of her own. When these two gentle, endearing animals happen to find each other, they immediately become a happy family—until Lamb realizes that he is different from all the other kangaroo children and attempts to fit in—with hilarious results. This sweet story, with its delightfully humorous illustrations, truly celebrates the meaning of “family” and is sure to become a favorite among all families.

5Great book for transracial adoptive familiesJan 07, 2009
We bought this book for our 18 m.o. daughter whom we adopted transracially, and we think it is a very sweet book for her. She loves it, but so does her brother (4.5 y.o.) who is not adopted.

5CharmingOct 31, 2008
This book is one of the most charming stories I have ever read to my 2 year old. It is a story about a lonely mother kangaroo without a baby and a lonely lamb without a mother who find each other and learn that their differences don't stop them from being family. The illustrations are sweet and funny and the text is perfect for a read-aloud bed time story. This is a must for any family, adoptive or not.

5Great Adoption BookAug 06, 2008
I think this is a great book. I just adopted my son, 2 years old, and it is a transracial adoption. I think this book successfully talks about adoption, being different, love and the meaning of family without overly spelling out issues in the adoption process. It does not bring up things that may present complicated feelings or questions. What I mean is, the message of being loved if your adopted or different comes across without it being spelled out so loudly, so your child just feels that you love him no matter what he looks like or where he came from.
I also know that as my son grows up, he may feel a want to have our skin be the same color. This book addresses that-the brown mom kangaroo and the little white lamb both do things to look like the other because they love each other so much, but realize they really love each other for who they are...and it doesn't matter that they are different, they have each other. They are a family.

5Great book for younger kids and has a message too.Jul 11, 2007
What a great book!

I had to read this book out loud to a small gathering of 3 and under kids--it was one of the only books I read that seemed to hold their attention. The illustrations are vibrant and bold without being overwhelming, the characters emotions are conveyed really well on the page. The story itself has a wonderful blend of silliness and heart. Ultimately its a story about adoption and how differences can be a good thing, its also about family and love. But it has great moments where you get to read words like "Boing!" and "maa-aa-aa" out loud, which any little kid can get into.

Very good book.
