I bought this book because I remember it was my little sister's favorite book almost three decades ago. Now it's my son's favorite. He loves that he can lift the flaps and turn the pages himself. On every page he lifts the flap and then points at the animal and then flips the page and keeps going. It gives him the sense that he's reading the book himself or reading it to me, which he loves. I like how this book encourages him to enjoy reading at a level that he can appreciate. He'll go over to the shelf and pull down the book and either bring it to me or just start flipping through it on his own. He was doing this from about 10 months and still enjoys it at 16 months. It's very engaging and a great first book for toddlers.

If I were rating this book from my own perspective, I'd probably give it no more than three stars. However, it was written for the little ones, and my little ones LOVE this book. It is very simplistic, but my girls could look through this book, lifting each tab over and over again. We have read it until the flaps have literally fallen off.

It is a great book! My son loved it! The important thing is that the flaps are durable.

My daugther LOVES this book! I bought it for her first birthday and she wants to read it again and again. She loves lifting the flap on each page. My only complaint is that I wish the flaps were a little more durable.
